The Absurd Before the Weekend: Getting Maced
Initially, on my draft of this rant, I was going to title this missive, "Nancy Mace is a Dick," but then the better angels sitting on my shoulder whispered in my ear to change the title because then I would be the one who would look like a dick for picking on poor Nanc. However, as the week progressed in America, I decided to add it to my list of The Absurd."
To start our week, the Occupant of the Oval Office was told that the strike on the Venezuelan boat that he ordered was possibly illegal since his office had not provided public evidence that the targeted boats were carrying illegal drugs or that the passengers were terrorists. His response was that over 300 million people in America died last year due to drugs.
Wow! Who knew that America was shrinking? Fact Check: In 2024, the population of America was 340.1 million people. His math was a bit off. The most recent number of drug overdoses in America last year was roughly 75,000. Moving on...
The White House has vowed to dismantle left-wing organizations, and one of the examples is to demolish the organization, ANTIFA. I have yet to find the closest chapter of ANTIFA. Are they a 501 (c) (3)? Do we have to pay dues? Do we get to earn cute little badges?
My Dad fought against fascism in World War II. He was in the Armed Services. So, why wouldn't we want to be ANTIFA?
The American people have been threatened and warned that they will meet scorn, penalties, and prison if anyone refers to the Occupant in the Oval Office as a fascist or Hitler. There is something to be said about "selective memory," as some Republican politicians, authors, and GOP think tanks did indeed refer to President Obama as Hitler and also promoted posters with Obama's image wearing the Hitler moustache. U.S. Vice President JD Vance once called President Donald Trump "America's Hitler."
A silly old coot in Wisconsin, Rep. Jerry O’Connor (R) is defending his legislation that would ban LGBTQ+ pride flags from being flown on government buildings. He claims these flags are divisive and linked the recent assassination to 9/11.
And last but not least, Nancy Mace, the U.S. representative (R-SC), cannot seem to make up her mind. Upon the news of last week's assassination, she responded, "They killed Charlie Kirk.” However, she did not specify who she thought “they” were. Mace later called on Democrats to take responsibility for the shooting - and it is important to note that this was before the alleged shooter was identified and held. She continued to eratically pontificate, "It’s time to bring back the death penalty.” The following morning, she shrieked, “The Left owns what happened yesterday.” Again, this was before there was a captured suspect.
By the end of the week, when reports identified the shooter as he turned himself in, it was pointed out that he came from a staunch Mormon MAGA family whose family events consisted of target practice, visiting gun shows, and collecting guns. Mace twisted herself up like a pretzel and said, "We know Charlie Kirk would want us to pray for such an evil, and lost individual like Tyler Robinson to find Jesus Christ.
And that, my friends, is a very ill and absurd America, and nothing like the one we used to know. America is barely hanging on and needs a break. With all of the threats towards the media and civilians speaking their mind, I started thinking about my own words and whether I should stop. I checked in with some friends and asked their opinion, to which I received, "DON'T STOP!"
