Skeletons Hanging Out in the Closet: Nasty Politics

Well, it is Halloween after all... 
With skeletons and boogeymen. 

If you're going to run for office and have a skeleton in your closet, be aware. If your "skeleton" got caught passing a love note in 5th grade and you had to go to the principal's office, be aware: that note may grow tentacles from a child's note to become a list of all the answers to the bar exam, and instead of the principal's office, you spent time in jail. 

As we get closer to the midterm elections, we see candidates get more desperate and -- nastier. And it hasn't always been this nasty; sometimes the opposition gets a bit more "edgy." However, right now, the attacks are less about policy and more personal. For now, I want to know more about my health insurance and food prices, and less about a politician who enjoys more than the mission position with his wife (or whomever).  

Earlier this week, MAGA Ohio gubernatorial candidate smarmy Vivek Ramaswamy unleashed an ad on his Democratic opponent, Dr. Amy Acton. It featured Acton's estranged elderly mother, Donna Arthur.

Acton, as a 12-year-old child, was legally removed from the home of Arthur and her stepfather due to being abused by her mother and sexually abused by her stepfather. Earlier, the stepfather had also been prosecuted for raping his own daughter. Acton's brother claims the abuse was all true, and it is documented that the stepfather went to jail. Acton also alleged that Arthur would lock the children in the basement without food. Eventually, Acton's birth father was able to obtain legal custody of his daughter and gave her a stable home.

The ad that Ramaswamy and his team produced shows the elderly Arthur claiming that Amy Acton, whom she hadn't seen in over 47 years, "lied" about the abuse and urging voters not to support her in the governor's race. I have to wonder how much the old lady pocketed from this commercial. 

The current occupant of the Oval Office and his Vice President stand by Ramaswamy's despicable commercial. 

Enter former FBI agent, former U.S. House member (R), and former member of the Committee on Intelligence, Mike Rogers. He is now running for a Michigan Senate seat, and his opponent is Democrat Abdul El-Sayed.

Yeah, the candidate has a Muslim name, and MAGA just found a new boogeyman, even though El-Sayed was born and raised in Michigan, in the United States of America. He graduated from the University of Michigan, is a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and earned a medical degree from Columbia University, where he became an assistant professor. Later, El-Sayed was the executive director of Detroit's Health Department and director of Michigan's Wayne County Department of Health, Human & Veterans Services.

Democrats once called Rogers "a voice" because he was known as a moderate Republican who was "levelheaded and cooperative." Well, times have changed. One of Roger's Senate cronies said, "El-Sayed sleeps in an Osama Bin Laden jersey," and Rogers found it amusing. Because of his faith, El-Sayed has been referred to as a "jihadist, terrorist, and not American."  Some suggested El-Sayed should be "deported back to where he came from." Where? In Michigan? Yet, Roger's campaign spokesperson claims El-Sayed is the one spreading the hate (interpreted because El-Sayed is a Muslim). I suspect that Rogers knows better, but he seems comfortable ignoring the lies made about his opponent. 

This very much resembles when President Barack Hussein Obama supposedly wasn't born in the United States (he was born in Hawaii), and he was a Muslim terrorist (The senior Obama was a Muslim and not a terrorist), and there would be "dark days ahead," according to Chuck Morris, if we voted in Obama as US President. 

Fascinating, how MAGA has this fixation that all Muslims must be extremists and terrorists, while ignoring the Christian Nationalists who look at women, Jews, and people of color as second-class citizens, and played a large role in the J6 insurrection. Proving that all religions have their extremists, and it is another example of MAGA hypocrisy. Someone has to be their boogeyman.
